Setting Advanced Chat Permissions

How Superadmins can configure settings to control who can view conversations, send messages, and create channels.

Manage Channels Settings

Navigate to Settings > Chat. This section provides an overview of all channels within the organization, including those that you may not be a member of.

For each channel, the SuperAdmin is given 3 options:

1 - Edit 'About' tab

This tab is available for all channels. 

  • Channel name: Edit channel name
  • Checkbox for auto-adding everyone in the org*: Enabling this ensures all future members (new hires) are automatically added to this channel.
This option is only accessible for non-default channels that you are a part of. For definitions, refer to the blue box below.

2 - Edit members of the channel

  • This tab is only enabled for non-default channels that the you are a part of.
  • This tab is disabled if channel is a default channel, or, if you are not a part of the channel.

Definitions:
Non-default : Channels that are custom created

Default: Channels that came pre-shipped (“everyone”, “inner circle”, “all owners”, “random”, “announcements”, and the location channels).
You are a part of : The logged in user is one of the participants of the channel. Doesn’t matter if the channel was created by you or someone else.

 

Here you can add:

  • individual members

  • groups of members that you want to be auto-added to this channel. The listed groups can be any role, job, or location.

3 - Edit permission settings of the channel

This is available for all channels.

  1. Who can invite/remove members
    Superadmins in the channel can do this by default.

    1. all channel members: everyone in the channel is allowed to invite or remove anyone else

    2. creator of the channel ( + superadmins): this is default

    3. specific members or roles: you cannot exclude superadmins. Any chosen members or roles, as long as they are participants of the channel, will be able to invite / remove anyone else.

  2. Who can post
    Superadmins in the channel can do this by default.

    1. all channel members: everyone in the channel is allowed to post

    2. specific members or roles: you cannot exclude superadmins. Any chosen members or roles, as long as they are participants of the channel, will be able to post.

  3. Do not allow members to leave this channel

  4. Delete channel for everyone

Restrict Chat Settings

If toggle is ON
  • Chat feature will only be available to HQ team (superadmins and admins). Chat feature will be hidden entirely for LOs, Ws, and Ls.
If toggle is OFF
Chat feature is available to everyone.
  • Who can create new channels?
    • Select via role or job. Whatever you do, you cannot exclude superadmins.
  • Who can start DMs?
    • Select via role or job. Whatever you do, you cannot exclude superadmins.
